  Merrimac Town Hall

Merrimac, Massachusetts
2006 Massachusetts Historical Commission Preservation Award

McGinley Kalsow & Associates was engaged by the Town of Merrimac in October 2001 to design the complete renovation of the 1876 High Victorian Gothic structure designed by noted architect Thomas Silloway. The renovation plans were extremely sensitive to historic fabric not only on the exterior, but throughout the interior as well.  The renovation restored the original four storefront bays lowering one street front bay to street level for a fully accessible entrance. To accommodate the program requirements the basement was excavated to nearly double the usable office space in Town Hall. The expansion allowed the auditorium to be retained and used as an auditorium. An efficient and compatible addition to the rear provided an elevator, stairs and restroom facilities to serve each level in a fully accessible manner.  The renovated Town Hall was formally re-dedicated on March 2004.
