  Provincetown Town Hall Recognized
with 2011 MHC Preservation Award

May 2011: The Massachusetts Historical Commission recognized Provincetown Town Hall with a 2011 Preservation Award. William F. Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth, and Brona Simon, MHC Executive Director, presented the award in a special ceremony at the Mass. Archives on May 25, 2011. The 1886 Town Hall underwent a comprehensive interior and exterior restoration that involved structural and envelope repairs, programmatic and accessibility improvements and the restoration of character-defining elements throughout the building including the auditorium. The historic auditorium ceiling, chandelier and wall sconces were replicated, returning the auditorium to its earlier splendor.

McGinley Kalsow & Associates led the team of experts that conducted the restoration/renovation. With this restoration, Provincetown Town Hall has again become the center of community life. The town's impressive art collection has been strategically displayed on well lit historically painted walls throughout the building for citizens, employees and visitors to enjoy. The municipal offices now reside in environmentally safer spaces with modern facilities to serve the community.

The Provincetown Historical Commission previously recognized the project with its 2010 Excellence in Preservation Award.
