McGinley Kalsow & Associates selected for restoration of Boston College’s signature building - Gasson Hall

October, 2006: In anticipation of Boston College’s 150-year anniversary, the college selected McGinley Kalsow & Associates to design the exterior restoration of Gasson Hall. The signature building was the first on Boston College’s Chestnut Hill Campus after the school outgrew its facilities in Boston’s South End. Gasson Hall was designed by the Boston architectural firm of McGuinness & Walsh and built from 1909-1913. MKA will design the restoration of all exterior elements including the cast stone and pudding stone walls, terracotta tile roof and stained glass windows.
The inspection of the building was completed in September utilizing aerial lifts for the lower portions of the building and vertical access repellers to inspect the tower. Petrographic analysis of the cast stone will soon be completed and the task of designing masonry treatments will begin.
